A Jacksonville woman has been sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to biting a law enforcement officer outside a local charter school.
Erika McGriff pled guilty to Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and was adjudicated guilty following an incident on October 7, 2025.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Officer Randy Holton approached McGriff regarding an illegally parked vehicle outside the school. When McGriff refused orders to move the vehicle, Officer Holton attempted to take her into custody.
McGriff physically resisted and bit the officer, leaving a visible mark on his arm. The interaction was captured on body-worn camera footage, which was later released by the agency.
Under the terms of her sentence, McGriff will serve 120 days in the Duval County Jail, followed by 12 months of community control. Her sentence also requires 50 hours of community service, a written letter of apology to the officer, and the completion of several required programs, including an Anger Management course, the Batterers Intervention Program, and the Choices & Consequences course.
During the initial encounter, two additional individuals were arrested for violating Florida’s Halo Law after police stated they interfered with Officer Holton as he attempted to detain McGriff.
In April, McGriff was arrested again in an unrelated case for simple battery, marking her 10th arrest in Duval County.
