Florida Woman Turns Ten Bucks Into A Two Million Dollar Reality

A quick stop for a Scratch-Off ticket changed everything for a 33-year-old woman from Pahokee. Lekisha Epps visited the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee on January 20 to claim a $2 million top prize from the 100X THE CASH game.

According to the Florida Lottery on Wednesday, Epps bought the winning $10 ticket at the Kwik Stop located at 379 Bacom Point Road in her hometown. When it came time to collect, she opted for the one-time, lump-sum payment, walking away with $1,111,700.00.

The game Epps played, 100X THE CASH, launched with over $243.4 million in total cash prizes. According to lottery officials, the game still features more than 10 top prizes of $2 million, with overall odds of winning any prize sitting at 1-in-3.49.

While individual wins like this grab the spotlight, the Florida Lottery notes that these games fund a much larger mission. Since its inception in 1988, the organization has contributed more than $50 billion to Florida’s education system.

This funding supports the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has helped over one million students attend state colleges and universities.

The Lottery currently reinvests 99 percent of its revenue back into the state through prize money, retailer commissions for over 13,600 locations, and education transfers. To date, the Florida Lottery has paid out over $106.5 billion in prizes and produced more than 4,521 millionaires.
