Russia’s Tactics:
- Manufacturing fake content: Russia is creating fake videos and articles to spread disinformation about the election process, including false claims of election fraud and voter intimidation.
- Inciting violence: Some of this disinformation is designed to stoke fear and anger, potentially leading to violence against election officials and others.
- Targeting swing states: These influence operations are particularly focused on swing states, where the election outcome is expected to be close.
Iran’s Activities:
Iran also remains a significant threat, with intelligence agencies assessing that it has conducted malicious cyber activity to compromise a presidential campaign. Iran may also try to suppress voter turnout or incite violence through fake media content.

Protecting the Election:
CISA is urging voters to seek information from trusted, official sources, such as state and local election officials. Campaigns and election infrastructure stakeholders are encouraged to report any suspicious or criminal activity to the FBI or CISA.
This warning highlights the ongoing threat of foreign interference in U.S. elections and the need for vigilance in combating disinformation and protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
