A federal grand jury has issued subpoenas to former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan, former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Peter Strzok, and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page on Friday, marking an escalation in a federal investigation into the origins of the 2016 Trump-Russia probe.

The subpoenas are part of an ongoing Justice Department investigation led by U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones, with officials in Miami and Washington, D.C., preparing to issue a wave of subpoenas. Fox News host Bret Baier announced the development on-air, citing law enforcement sources who indicated that up to 30 more subpoenas could follow in the coming days.

“Fox News Digital is now reporting a federal grand jury has subpoenaed former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, as well as others. It is part of the Justice Department’s investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe. Sources say the trio were served with federal subpoenas today,” Baier stated.

The investigation focuses on alleged coordinated efforts within federal agencies to undermine the Trump presidency, particularly regarding the handling of the initial Trump-Russia collusion claims. This focus intensified following the July 18 release of documents and a memo by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, which she described as exposing a “years-long coup” against President Donald Trump.

The files released by Gabbard reportedly revealed that Peter Strzok played a central role in advancing the claims of Trump-Russia collusion. Strzok is also alleged to have intervened to prevent the FBI from closing its investigation into retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.

Lisa Page, who previously testified before Congress in 2018, stated that investigators had not found significant evidence of collusion between the Trump 2016 campaign and the Russian government when Robert Mueller was appointed Special Counsel. During that testimony, Page noted that Strzok privately admitted to her having doubts about the case, based on their text exchanges.

The subpoenas come as former CIA Director John Brennan is already under federal investigation, a development first reported by Fox News in July 2025. While former FBI Director James Comey is scheduled for trial in January, prosecutors are reportedly expected to present evidence against Brennan to a grand jury in South Florida, though he has not yet been indicted.

In October, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan formally referred Brennan to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution. Jordan accused Brennan of knowingly making false statements during his 2023 congressional testimony regarding the CIA’s use of the discredited Steele dossier in the post-2016 election Intelligence Community Assessment.

Declassified records cited in the referral suggest Brennan personally approved the inclusion of the dossier’s contents over objections from senior CIA officials, contradicting his sworn denials and allegedly showing he and Comey jointly decided to include the dossier in the assessment.
