Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax And Wife Dead In Murder-Suicide

Police have confirmed that former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife before taking his own life Wednesday night at their family home. The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating the incident as a murder-suicide linked to the couple’s ongoing divorce proceedings.

During a news conference Thursday morning, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis provided details on the preliminary investigation.

“This has been an ongoing domestic dispute surrounding what seems to be a complicated or messy divorce,” Davis stated.

Authorities revealed that Fairfax had recently been served with legal paperwork concerning an upcoming court proceeding. While the couple’s two teenage children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, they were not physically injured.

Fairfax, a Democrat, served as the lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2018 to 2022. Detectives remain on the scene as the investigation into the specific timeline of events continues.
