Formula For Disaster: Florida Mom Jailed After Mixing Baby’s Bottle With Meth-Tainted Water

A trip to a local hospital for a fussy baby ended in a jail cell for a 32-year-old Florida mother after doctors discovered the infant had been exposed to methamphetamine. Jalyn Brownworth was arrested on April 9 and faces charges of child neglect after a medical examination revealed the drug in the baby’s system.

The incident began when Brownworth brought her child to the hospital, citing concerns over “behavioral changes.”

While evaluating the infant, medical staff grew suspicious and alerted the Department of Children and Families. Tests later confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, prompting an immediate investigation by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives determined that the exposure occurred during a feeding. According to investigators, Brownworth prepared the baby’s formula using contaminated water. Police stated the water had previously been used to clean hypodermic needles that were used to inject methamphetamine.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the details of the investigation in a statement, noting that the infant was reported to be in stable condition and is currently recovering.

While authorities have not publicly disclosed who now has custody of the child, court records indicate that a judge has ordered Brownworth to have no contact with the baby upon her release.

Brownworth is currently being held at the Alachua County Jail on a $20,000 bond. She faces a single count of child neglect without great bodily harm. Information regarding her legal representation or her next scheduled court appearance has not yet been released.
