Representative Greg Steube sent a letter to Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle on Monday, asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to speed up its permit review for the Fort Myers Yacht Basin redevelopment.
The city submitted the permit application in May 2024 to rebuild the facility, which suffered severe damage during Hurricane Ian in September 2022. More than three years after the storm, the city-owned waterfront site remains closed to the public.
In his letter, Steube requested an official status update on the application. He also called for a meeting between representatives from the Department of the Army, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the City of Fort Myers, and marina operator Suntex Marinas to address any outstanding delays.
The request comes shortly after Steube toured the damaged property with local officials on July 7, 2026. During the site visit, Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson outlined the administrative hurdles and community challenges that have delayed the marina’s reconstruction.
