Four Lakeland Residents Displaced After Fire On MLK Ave. In Lakeland Monday

Lakeland, Fla. – At approximately 6:30 AM on Monday the Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) received a call of a structure fire at 1544 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames billowing from the windows.

Fire crews made access into the structure and battled fire and dense smoke.

The fire was brought under control in less than 15 minutes. The structure sustained significant fire damage. The American Red Cross was called in to assist and is helping the four occupants there were displaced.

A total of ten LFD units, one Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) Medic Unit, and patrol units from the Lakeland Police Department (LPD) responded to the scene.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The fire was determined to be accidentally caused by an overloaded electrical circuit. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of home fire safety.
