Federal authorities are hunting for a Minnesota fraud suspect who jumped out of a fourth-floor balcony window Thursday to escape arresting agents.
The dramatic escape occurred the same day U.S. officials announced federal charges against 15 individuals in Minnesota for their alleged roles in fraud schemes targeting seven state-managed Medicaid programs. The multi-layered scams collectively pulled in more than $90 million in taxpayer funds.
Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division Colin McDonald identified the suspect as Muhammad Omar. McDonald confirmed that Omar was already facing charges in one of the fraud cases before making his escape.
During a Thursday press conference, FBI Co-Deputy Director Christopher Raia shared video footage showing Omar leaping from the four-story window and limping away from the scene. Authorities confirmed he remains at large.
“We need your help,” Raia said during the broadcast. “If you recognize this individual, if you know this individual, if you can provide any information related to this individual, I would encourage you to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.”

McDonald indicated that Omar will face severe consequences for the stunt once he is apprehended.
“I would encourage the public to help turn this man in to face justice for the fraud that he has perpetrated — and now to face the additional charges for seeking to flee from law enforcement and seeking to obstruct justice by virtue of his conduct today,” McDonald said.
When asked for further details about the pursuit or Omar’s current condition, both the Justice Department and the FBI declined to comment further, directing reporters back to Raia’s statements.
The arrests come amid a broader federal crackdown on healthcare and social service fraud. Just last week, the administration announced a temporary freeze on enrolling new home health and hospice providers into Medicare to stem ongoing fraud loops.
The Minnesota cases have also drawn sharp criticism from lawmakers. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer issued a statement praising the federal action while pointing fingers at state leadership.
Comer stated that congressional investigations into rampant fraud in Minnesota revealed that Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison were aware of widespread fraud in social service programs, lied about their knowledge, and retaliated against employees who raised concerns. He alleged that instead of protecting vulnerable Americans, state officials handed over billions in taxpayer dollars to fraudsters and threw their own state employees under the bus.
