HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A four-vehicle collision tied up traffic on eastbound Interstate 4 on Tuesday afternoon, sending multiple lanes into gridlock after drivers failed to avoid slowing traffic ahead.
The crash happened around 2:35 p.m. west of the Interstate 75 interchange, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that four vehicles were traveling east along the interstate when traffic ahead began to back up. Despite evasive maneuvers from the drivers, the vehicles collided in a chain reaction.
The impact blocked multiple travel lanes for a period on Tuesday afternoon as first responders worked the scene and cleared debris.
According to state troopers, the collisions resulted in non-life-threatening injuries among those involved. Authorities have not released the names of the drivers or details on whether any citations will be issued.
