FREE virtual classes on Florida-Friendly Landscaping

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping (FFL) program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. Residents are invited to participate in free, online learning through virtual, interactive classes for the month of November. These virtual classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Coordinator Lilly Browning.

The schedule of classes along with a short description of each is listed below. Residents can participate by following FFL on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/HernandoFFLProgram. A link to participate in the classes will be provided on the Facebook page. Videos will be available on Facebook after the class has been recorded.

Free Virtual Class: Florida-Friendly Gardening for the Part-Time Resident Residents are invited to virtually attend “Florida-Friendly Gardening for the Part-Time Resident” on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. If you only live in Florida for part of the year, this is the class for you! Seasonal residents will learn what they can do to enjoy their yards while they spend the cooler months in Central Florida and how to keep them under control while they are out of town in the summer by going Florida-Friendly in their landscape.

Rain Barrel and Compost Bin Workshop  

Residents are invited to virtually attend a Rain Barrel and Compost Bin Workshop on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. If you are interested in attending a Rain Barrel Workshop and/or a Compost Bin Workshop, please email LillyB@HernandoCounty.us to register. Registration is required.

Rain barrels are $50. A one-time water bill credit of $25 is available for customers of Hernando County Utilities for attending a workshop and taking a rain barrel home. To receive a free compost bin, you must be a resident of Hernando County. One bin per household. Rain barrel and compost bin pick up will be Saturday, November 7, 2020 between 9 and 10 a.m. at the Hernando County Master Gardener Nursery located at 19490 Oliver Street in Brooksville.

Free Virtual Class: Landscape Plants to Usher in the Holidays Residents are invited to virtually attend “Landscape Plants to Usher in the Holidays” on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 10 a.m. Join Lilly Browning from Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping and Frank Galdo from Pasco County Florida-Friendly Landscaping as they help you prepare for the holidays in your own landscape.

Free Virtual Class: Creating a Winter Oasis in Your Central Florida Yard Residents are invited to virtually attend “Creating a Winter Oasis in Your Central Florida Yard” on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 10 a.m. The cooler months are a great time to hang out in your Central Florida yard. Find out the types of birds, pollinators and other wildlife we can expect to see in our yards in the winter months and how we can provide an oasis for our winter visitors.
