POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 71-year-old man visiting from Ontario, Canada, lost his life late Friday following a collision in Davenport. The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and Loma Del Sol.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the man was behind the wheel of a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica. Investigators say he attempted to make a left turn into the subdivision on Loma Del Sol Drive. As he turned, he crossed directly into the path of a 2019 BMW sedan heading in the opposite direction.

The two cars collided, leaving both drivers injured. Emergency crews from Polk County Fire Rescue rushed both people to a nearby hospital.

Sadly, the man died from his injuries soon after arriving. The other driver, a 22-year-old woman from Clermont, survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were the only people in their cars at the time.

Deputies shut down that stretch of Ronald Reagan Parkway for about three hours to clear the wreckage and figure out exactly what happened. Based on what they found, officials do not expect to file any criminal charges.
