TAMPA, Fla. – Senator Rick Scott has released the fourth installment of his ‘American Dream at Work’ series, featuring a visit to eSmart Recycling in Tampa to discuss entrepreneurship, the digital divide, and the role of the free market in solving community issues.

During the visit, Senator Scott toured the facility and sat down with the company’s founder, Tony Selvaggio, to highlight how Florida’s business owners are driving innovation and opportunity.

Founded in 2014, eSmart Recycling focuses on repurposing electronic waste to provide technology to families and children in need. Selvaggio, who immigrated to the United States from Venezuela and later became a U.S. citizen, shared his perspective on the unique opportunities available in the American economy.

“Tony shared with me just how special the United States is, and how lucky we are to have the freedoms and opportunities that Washington politicians take for granted,” Senator Scott said. “Tony Selvaggio’s story, and the stories of so many Floridians like him, remind us why the American Dream is worth fighting for”.

A central theme of the discussion was the belief that the private sector is often better equipped than the government to handle complex social challenges.

Selvaggio noted that the most effective way for the government to assist is by “getting out of the way” to allow the free market to function. In the video, Selvaggio explains, “If you let the entrepreneurs be the creative ones… solve the social problems that the community is experiencing and just empower them, then it’ll be a lot easier”.

Senator Scott echoed this, criticizing the “big government” approach often seen in Washington. “In Washington, too many politicians see big government as the answer to every problem. But Tony and I know better,” Scott stated. “We know that it’s businesses, families, and people on the ground who are best at solving the complex issues in their communities”.

The visit also addressed the critical importance of employment in achieving personal success. Selvaggio emphasized that a stable, good-paying job is “the backbone of what our families need” and provides a sense of purpose that allows individuals to give back to their communities.

The ‘American Dream at Work’ series is part of Senator Scott’s ongoing effort to travel the state and highlight entrepreneurs who are growing jobs and contributing to Florida’s economy.

Drawing from his own background—growing up in public housing before becoming a business owner and Governor—Scott emphasized his commitment to ensuring every American has the opportunity to succeed.

“By getting big government out of the way, reining in federal spending, cutting taxes, and empowering business owners like Tony, we can Make Washington Work Better for all Floridians,” Scott concluded.
