Local Authorities Make Arrests in Recent Little Torch Key and Marathon Incidents

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced two unrelated arrests on Thursday, June 26, 2025, involving a man charged with aggravated assault and another with burglary.

Man Arrested in Gun Incident

David Casares, a 42-year-old resident of Little Torch Key, Florida, was arrested Thursday on multiple charges stemming from an incident earlier this month where he allegedly threatened another man with a firearm. Casares faces charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public or residential property, and battery. No injuries were reported in connection with the gun incident.

The incident in question occurred on June 3, 2025, on the 2700 block of the Overseas Highway. According to reports, Casares struck a roommate during an argument and subsequently held a 9mm handgun to the victim’s head. The roommate fled the immediate vicinity and then reported hearing a gunshot. Responding Sheriff’s Office personnel located a 9mm casing at the scene.

A warrant for Casares’ arrest was obtained, and he was taken into custody and booked into jail on Thursday.

Man Arrested for Burglary

In a separate incident, William Herrera Roque, a 52-year-old Marathon, Florida man, was arrested Thursday for the theft of a lawnmower. He has been charged with burglary and theft.

Deputies were dispatched to 30th Street at approximately 6:10 p.m. following a report of a suspect, later identified as Herrera Roque, stealing a lawnmower from a yard.

Herrera Roque reportedly admitted to stealing the $200 lawnmower, which has since been recovered and returned to its owner.
