TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay area is starting the week with heat and clear skies before a shift toward unsettled weather arrives by Thursday. Today, residents can expect patchy fog to clear by 10 a.m., giving way to mostly sunny conditions with a high reaching near 90 degrees. Winds will remain light, shifting to the south at about 6 mph by the afternoon. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low of 65 degrees.
The calm pattern continues into Wednesday, which is forecasted to be sunny with a high of 89 degrees. Light morning winds will pick up slightly from the south-southeast at 5 to 7 mph.
However, clouds will begin to increase Wednesday night as the low settles around 66 degrees.
A significant change in the local atmosphere begins Thursday afternoon. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., accompanied by breezy conditions and gusts as high as 20 mph.
While the high will reach 85 degrees, the chance for rain persists into Thursday night at 40 percent with a low of 62 degrees.
The unsettled trend sticks around for the end of the work week and the weekend. Friday will see a high of 83 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain throughout the day. Saturday remains partly sunny with a high of 85, but afternoon thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. with a 40 percent probability.
The most active weather is slated for Sunday and Monday. Forecasters are calling for a 50 percent chance of rain on Sunday, followed by a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday.
Temperatures will drop slightly during this period, with Monday seeing a high of approximately 81 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.
