FROSTPROOF, Fla. – A 32-year-old Frostproof man with a lengthy criminal record, who had reportedly threatened a “shootout” with law enforcement, has been taken into custody after a peaceful surrender orchestrated by his girlfriend.

Jonathan Cory Weese was wanted on multiple serious charges, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Improper Display of a Firearm.

Authorities were also concerned by statements Weese had allegedly made to others, indicating he would rather engage in a gun battle with deputies than return to jail.

These threats were apparently enough to alarm his girlfriend, who took on a role in preventing a potentially violent confrontation. Acting as a liaison between Weese and law enforcement, she facilitated a phone conversation between Weese and deputies.

The situation came to a peaceful conclusion on Friday night, October 3rd.

Weese’s girlfriend drove him to a location where he was met by deputies. Weese was taken into custody without further resistance and was subsequently booked-in at the Sheriff’s Processing Center.
