POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 66-year-old Polk City man with a lengthy criminal history, including ten stints in state prison, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) acted on a tip.

Dallas Russell Long, a registered career offender, had been sought on three active warrants, deputies say.

According to a PCSO report, deputies received information that Long was located on 1st Street in Polk City. Upon arrival, they found him sitting in a carport. When approached, Long reportedly lied to deputies about his identity in an attempt to evade capture. The deputies, however, were not fooled.

As deputies moved to arrest him, Long tensed up and attempted to pull away, resisting their efforts. Despite his resistance, he was successfully taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.

Long was wanted on three warrants: Failure to Register as a Career Offender, Tampering with an Electronic Control Device, and Violation of Pre-Trial Release. Following his apprehension, he was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest Without Violence and Providing a False Name to a Law Enforcement Officer.

Long’s criminal record, which spans decades, includes charges such as Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Officer with Violence, Fleeing to Elude, Aggravated Assault, Intimidating a Witness, DUI, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury, and Indecent Exposure.

He has served a total of 43 years in state prison over ten separate convictions, deputies say.
