U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) successfully deported a Guatemalan national wanted for a serious crime in his home country as part of an operation dubbed “Midway Blitz.”
Hugo Rene Figueroa-Choc, 49, an illegal alien, was removed from the U.S. on October 15 via an ICE Air Operations charter flight. Upon arrival in Guatemala, he was immediately handed over to Guatemalan law enforcement. Figueroa-Choc was wanted for reckless harm causing bodily injury in his home country.
Figueroa-Choc has a history of violating U.S. immigration laws. He was first arrested by U.S. Border Patrol near Eagle Pass, Texas, on April 5, 2006, and subsequently deported on April 22, 2011, through San Antonio, Texas. Despite this, he illegally reentered the United States at an unknown later date.
His most recent apprehension occurred on October 7 when ICE Chicago, collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested him during a targeted operation.
Sam Olson, Field Office Director for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago, emphasized the agency’s dedication to public safety.
“This removal highlights ICE’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding our communities and ensuring that individuals who violate U.S. immigration laws and endanger public safety are held accountable,” Olson stated. “Figueroa-Choc’s repeated criminal actions posed a serious threat, and ICE remains focused on removing individuals who jeopardize the safety and security of our nation.”
