St. Petersburg Man Dead After Early Morning Collision on Gandy Boulevard; Driver Arrested for DUI
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A collision between a pickup truck and an electric cycle early Saturday morning has resulted in the death of a St. Petersburg man. The driver of the truck, arrested at the scene, faces charges of driving under the influence.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred around 3:05 a.m. at the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and 4th Street North. The victim, a 43-year-old St. Petersburg resident, was riding his electric cycle eastbound on Gandy when he was struck from behind by a Chevy Silverado.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as 36-year-old Robert Chase Self of Conroe, Texas, was reportedly also traveling eastbound. FHP troopers stated that Self overtook and collided with the cyclist.
Emergency services transported the injured cyclist to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Following the crash, troopers conducted an investigation at the scene. Self was arrested for driving under the influence and is reported to have refused a breathalyzer test. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
