American drivers are experiencing significant relief at the pump as the nationwide average price for gasoline has dropped to its lowest point in more than four years, a development the White House attributes to President Donald J. Trump’s commitment to robust American energy production.
According to GasBuddy, the nationwide average price for regular gasoline has fallen to $2.98 per gallon, marking the lowest average intra-day price observed in four years. This new low is expected to persist, offering a welcome reprieve for household budgets across the country.
“Currently, 35 states have average gas prices below $2.99/gal, and GasBuddy even recorded the first $1.99 cash price at a station in Evans, Colorado, with stations in Oklahoma and Texas not far behind,” a GasBuddy report stated. “Barring any major disruptions, gas prices are likely to remain slightly below year-ago levels and could stay under $3 for much of the next few months.”

The administration has quickly championed the price drop as a direct result of the President’s “relentless commitment to American energy production,” making good on a key campaign promise to lower costs and stimulate economic growth.
The White House highlighted the contrast with the preceding administration, noting that under President Biden, average gas prices remained above $3 per gallon for nearly the entirety of his presidency.
The falling prices are being felt across the nation, with local news outlets reporting on the welcome trend:
- Birmingham, AL: Gas prices drop, national average falls below $3
- Miami, FL: Gas prices have hit a new low mark in Florida
- Baltimore, MD: Gas prices drop below $3 per gallon, lowest since 2020
- Detroit, MI: Michigan gas prices hit lowest point per gallon since April 2021
- St. Louis, MO: Gas prices drop below $3 nationally, St. Louis is even cheaper
- Charleston, SC: South Carolina gas prices drop by a dime; nationwide average hits below $3
Reports from states including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin all confirm a persistent downward trend in fuel costs, delivering financial relief to millions of American commuters and families.
