The Trump administration is preparing to host the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace” this Thursday in Washington, marking a pivotal moment for a multinational body that has grown significantly in scope since its inception.
While the group was first introduced as a focused task force dedicated to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip following the Israel-Hamas war, new details suggest its ambitions now stretch far beyond that initial mandate.
President Donald Trump, who chairs the board, announced Sunday that the upcoming session will include the unveiling of a $5 billion pledge specifically for Gaza’s recovery. Beyond the financial commitment, Trump noted that member nations have already pledged “thousands of personnel” intended to provide security and stability within the enclave as rebuilding efforts begin.

Despite the concrete figures attached to the Gaza project, the board’s long-term identity remains a point of discussion among international observers.
A draft of the organization’s charter indicates that the mission has officially expanded. Rather than acting as a temporary committee for a single region, the document frames the board as a global entity designed to intervene in and resolve conflicts around the world.
This shift from a local humanitarian effort to a broad geopolitical instrument has raised questions regarding how the board will coordinate with existing international bodies and what its specific criteria for intervention will be.
Thursday’s meeting is expected to provide the first clear look at the board’s operational structure and how it intends to balance its immediate goals in Gaza with its new, more expansive global charter.
