A weekend gathering descended into chaos early Saturday morning when a shouting match exploded into violence, leaving one man permanently disfigured and two men behind bars.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to a home on Floyd Road shortly after 3 a.m. following reports of a severe assault. According to local WDUN, tensions boiled over between 42-year-old Carlos Hernandez Nicolas and 38-year-old Jose Turcios Garcia.

The verbal dispute turned physical, escalating rapidly when Nicolas allegedly grabbed a machete and struck Garcia. The victim was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia, with serious injuries, including the amputation of his left thumb.

Deputies arrested Nicolas at the scene; he remains in the Hall County Jail without bond, facing a felony charge of aggravated battery.

In a twist, the victim didn’t go home after his medical treatment. Upon his release from the hospital, Garcia was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

Authorities confirmed that immigration holds have been placed on both men.
