A Georgia man is behind bars in Ware County after a Wednesday operation led to his arrest and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal narcotics and prison contraband being delivered by the man’s drone.
Santonio Knighton, 27, of Union City, Georgia, was detained after Ware County Detectives, acting on intelligence, saw him operating a drone near a residence in the 3800 block of Blalock Avenue.
Detectives gave the order to detain Knighton as he operated the unmanned aircraft, and he was arrested without incident.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was obtained for Knighton’s rental vehicle and his temporary lodgings on Blalock Avenue. A detailed search of the premises and vehicle yielded a large haul of illegal items.
Detectives located approximately half a pound of fentanyl, about one pound of methamphetamine, around five pounds of marijuana, and thirty pounds of tobacco. Investigators also seized 14 cell phones and numerous other items described by authorities as contraband and dangerous within prison walls.
Knighton is currently being held without bond in the Ware County Jail and faces multiple charges, including:
- Trafficking in Fentanyl
- Trafficking in Methamphetamine
- Felony Intentional Use of An Unmanned Aircraft
- Possession of Fentanyl
- Possession of Methamphetamine
The Ware County Sheriff’s Office extended its gratitude to the Georgia State Patrol and the GDC K-9 and Investigation Division for their assistance. Sheriff James also commended Patrol Division Deputies Cpl. Daniel Guest, Dep. Wayne Thrift Jr., and Dep. Ethan Arnold for their work on the case.
