A Georgia woman is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of murder, after police discovered the body of her 11-year-old daughter positioned in a recliner in their Sandy Springs home.

Shannen Grimes, 42, was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail on Tuesday following treatment for an attempted suicide. Police were called to her Laurel Grove condominium on November 14 by Grimes’ sister, who reported the suicide attempt.

Upon arrival, officers found Grimes bleeding from a self-inflicted wrist injury and located her deceased daughter, Genesis, sitting upright in a recliner with a blanket over her legs. Arrest warrants state the girl had at least four visible puncture wounds on her neck and shoulder area, and it appeared her body had been cleaned and positioned.

When questioned by officers about what happened to her daughter, Grimes allegedly replied, “I happened.” While being transported to the hospital, she reportedly confessed to police that she had stabbed her daughter in the neck.

Detectives found evidence of tampering at the scene, including blood-soaked towels, trash cans, and a bucket, suggesting an attempt to clean up. Blood-stained knives were also found near the kitchen sink, and clothing with holes around the neck and shoulder was discovered in Grimes’ bedroom.

Grimes has been charged with two counts of murder, cruelty to children, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of a felony, and tampering with evidence. She is currently being held without bond.
