Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has voiced criticism of the current administration’s execution of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, arguing that a more nuanced approach to immigration is necessary to address the nation’s labor demands.
The comments, made during an appearance on “The Tim Dillon Show” podcast, mark the latest instance of the Georgia congresswoman publicly diverging from the policy positions of the President and some of her Republican colleagues.
Greene stated that while she supports strong border security and immigration laws, the current strategy of mass deportations is impractical given economic realities.

“As a conservative, and as a business owner in the construction industry, and as a realist, I can say, we have to do something about labor,” Greene told the podcast host. She continued, “And it needs to be a smarter plan than just rounding up every single person and deporting them just like that… I’m just living in reality from here on out.”
The congresswoman specifically referenced the reliance of the American labor force on immigrants, including those who are undocumented.
Her critique on the raids follows reports of enforcement actions, including one in Chicago earlier this month that allegedly resulted in the separation of children from their parents.
Greene’s remarks on immigration add to a series of recent positions that have placed her at odds with elements of the Republican establishment and the President. In recent weeks, she has also publicly criticized her party’s handling of the government shutdown and rising healthcare costs, and called for the full release of documents related to the case of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Her growing independence has prompted questions about her alignment within the Republican Party. According to an NBC News report last week, President Donald Trump has reportedly contacted at least two senior Republicans to ask, “What’s going on with Marjorie?”

The divergence on healthcare led to a discussion between Greene and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who addressed her criticisms on “Fox News Sunday.” Johnson said he had a “thoughtful conversation” with Greene, during which he informed her that Republicans were “working around the clock” to lower healthcare prices.
The Speaker suggested her public frustration may stem from a lack of committee access. “Marjorie does not serve on those committees so I offered to have her come in the room and be a part of that discussion if indeed she wants to do that,” Johnson stated.
Despite the internal tension, Greene continues to assert her conservative principles, having recently posted on X, “I’m carving my own lane,” expressing frustration over potentially expiring healthcare tax credits.
