Following recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has issued a lengthy and sharply worded statement, expressing strong disapproval of the military action and calling for a re-evaluation of American foreign policy.

Her remarks highlight a growing sentiment among some conservatives to prioritize domestic issues over international military engagements, even as a detailed record of Iranian and Iran-backed attacks against Americans spans decades.

In a public statement, Greene questioned the rationale behind targeting Iran, stating, “I don’t know anyone in America who has been the victim of a crime or killed by Iran, but I know many people who have been victims of crime committed by criminal illegal aliens or MURDERED by Cartel and Chinese fentanyl/drugs.”

She contrasted the focus on Iran with what she described as a lack of action against drug cartels and other threats on the U.S. border, arguing, “America has not dropped bunker busters on the Cartel’s sophisticated drug tunnels, launched tomahawks on massive cartel poisonous drug operations, or gone to war against the cartels international terrorists networks.”

However, a comprehensive report from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), compiled by Research Fellow and Senior Editor Tzvi Kahn, details a long and deadly history of Iranian and Iran-backed attacks against Americans since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

This documentation, which FDD states is not comprehensive, demonstrates that “Tehran continues to pose a threat to U.S. forces in the Middle East, the American homeland, and Americans residing across the globe.”

Key incidents highlighted in the FDD report include:

  • November 1979-January 1981: Iranian students, with Tehran’s backing, take 66 Americans hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.
  • April 1983: A suicide car bombing kills 63 people, including 17 Americans, at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, claimed by the Iran-backed Islamic Jihad.
  • October 1983: Iran-backed Hezbollah operatives drive a truck bomb into a Marine compound in Beirut, killing 220 U.S. Marines and 21 other service personnel.
  • June 1996: A truck bomb detonates at Khobar Towers, a U.S. Air Force housing complex in Saudi Arabia, killing 19 Americans and injuring 500. The Iran-backed Hezbollah Al Hijaz is deemed responsible.
  • August 1998: With Hezbollah’s assistance, al Qaeda suicide bombers simultaneously attack U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 people, including 12 Americans. The 9/11 Commission Report notes al Qaeda’s tactical expertise for such attacks was developed in Hezbollah training camps in Lebanon.
  • 2003-2011: Iranian-backed militias kill at least 603 U.S. troops in Iraq, according to the Pentagon, largely through explosively formed penetrators (EFPs) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
  • January 2007: Twelve men affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, disguised as U.S. soldiers, kill five U.S. soldiers in Karbala, Iraq.
  • October 7, 2023: Hamas, significantly backed by Iran, kills at least 48 Americans and kidnaps at least 12 Americans in a massacre in southern Israel.
  • January 2024: A drone launched by the Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah kills three U.S. soldiers at a U.S. military base in Jordan and wounds over 40.
  • November 2024: An FDD report indicates Iran and its proxies conducted over 180 attacks against U.S. forces in the Middle East between October 2023 and November 2024, resulting in over 180 wounded and three killed U.S. service members.
  • March 2025: A U.S. jury convicts two agents of Iran for plotting to assassinate Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad in New York in 2022.
  • June 2025: At least three U.S. bases in Syria and two in Iraq are attacked with missiles or drones, likely by Iranian-backed militias.

Despite this documented history, Representative Greene, a self-identified “GenX” individual, voiced deep-seated frustration with what she characterized as a pattern of “senseless foreign wars” that have drained American resources and lives without tangible benefits to the nation.

“I’ve watched our country go to war in foreign lands for foreign causes on behalf of foreign interests for as long as I can remember,” she wrote, referencing the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. She emphasized the staggering national debt of $37 trillion, asserting that “all of these foreign wars have cost Americans TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS of dollars that never benefited any American.”

The congresswoman also touched upon the human cost, stating that “American troops have been killed and forever torn apart physically and mentally for regime change, foreign wars, and for military industrial base profits. I’m sick of it.”

While expressing support for Israel’s right to self-defense, Greene clearly distinguished this from U.S. military involvement.

“I can easily say I support nuclear armed Israel’s right to defend themselves and also say at the same time I don’t want to fight or fund nuclear armed Israel’s wars. Nor any other country for that matter.” Her core demand is for the U.S. to “fund American interests and issues,” advocating for policies that would foster economic prosperity at home, such as “GREAT trade deals,” “low inflation and low interest rates,” and a booming “American construction, housing, and manufacturing.”

Greene’s statement also included criticism of what she perceives as hypocrisy from congressional Democrats who now oppose the Iran strikes, despite having supported previous military actions.

She concluded by acknowledging the reality of the strikes but voiced concerns about potential Iranian retaliation and the U.S. being drawn into a broader conflict initiated by Israel.

“Americans now fear Iranian terrorists attacks on our own soil and being dragged into another war by Netanyahu when we weren’t even thinking about any of this a week ago,” she stated, concluding with a prayer for peace and an end to “the constant demand for America to go to war. Enough is enough.”

Greene’s outspoken stance reflects a persistent anti-interventionist strain within certain segments of the Republican party, echoing themes that resonated during the previous administration.

Her remarks are likely to fuel ongoing debate within Congress and among the public regarding the nation’s foreign policy priorities and military engagements abroad, particularly when contrasted with the documented history of Iranian aggression against American interests and lives.
