The Republican Party of Florida announced that it has not sanctioned or agreed to any general election debates for statewide races ahead of the August primary.
Party leadership clarified Tuesday that any discussions regarding upcoming debates have focused strictly on post-primary negotiations. According to party officials, these future arrangements must be handled directly by the official party nominees, their respective campaigns, and the opposing political party.
The current campaigns were not involved in any previous debate discussions.
State party officials expressed frustration with outside organizations attempting to set the schedule before the primary concludes, stating that political interest groups and media outlets are attempting to hijack the process for publicity and unilaterally dictate terms to the candidates.
“We look forward to the people of Florida witnessing substantive and thought-provoking debates that clearly highlight the stark differences between our Conservative Republican candidates and the far-left Democrat candidates,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
The party statement specifically named Democratic candidates David Jolly and Alex Vindman, emphasizing that debate matchups will take place after the primary is settled.
“Floridians deserve to hear David Jolly and Alex Vindman defend their radical agenda on the debate stage against our Republican nominees after the August Primary. From supporting men in women’s sports and bathrooms to pushing open borders, their extreme positions will be on full display,” Power said.
The Republican Party of Florida stated it remains committed to organizing post-primary debates to ensure voters have a clear choice ahead of the general election in November.
