The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is encouraging anglers across the state to log their freshwater catches through its newly revamped “Big Catch” recognition program.
The initiative rewards anglers of all skill levels and ages who catch fish meeting specific size thresholds across more than 30 eligible freshwater species throughout Florida. To qualify for recognition, a fish must meet or exceed minimum requirements for either length or weight.
Participation involves three steps:
- Landing a qualifying fish with an active hook-and-line method
- Taking a clear photograph of the catch
- Submitting the entry online to receive official recognition and a printable certificate
The program includes adjusted, lower qualifying size standards for youth anglers under 16 years old to encourage family participation.
FWC recently updated the official Big Catch website to streamline the entry process and provide targeting tips for each listed species. The agency stated that additional program updates, including new recognition categories and prizes, are planned for the near future.
