Governor DeSantis Announces Key Appointments To Florida Regulatory Boards

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Friday several key appointments and reappointments to state regulatory boards, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to industry oversight and professional standards across multiple sectors.

Board of Optometry Reappointment

Governor DeSantis reappointed Dr. Robert Easton to the Florida Board of Optometry.

Dr. Easton, a highly respected optometric physician, currently serves as the President of Easton Eye Care in Oakland Park. With an extensive background in optometry leadership, he has previously held the position of President at the Association of Regulatory Boards in Optometry, the Florida Optometric Association, and the Broward County Optometric Association.

Dr. Easton holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Central Florida and a doctorate in optometry from the University of Houston. His reappointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Electrical Contractors Licensing Board Appointments

Governor DeSantis also announced the appointment of Mark Astrom and Gilbert Gonzalez to the Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board.

  • Mark Astrom currently serves as the Electrical Director for Hillpointe Construction, LLC. He also holds leadership positions as the President of Crane Fire Company and Vice President of Gator Fire Equipment Company. Astrom was honored as the 2022 Fire Alarm Engineered Systems Dealer Rookie of the Year. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Gettysburg College and a master’s degree in photography from the School of Visual Arts.
  • Gilbert Gonzalez, DBA, is the Owner and CEO of Mission Critical Solutions, a Tampa-based company specializing in critical infrastructure solutions. In addition to his business endeavors, Gonzalez serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Florida, where he also chairs the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council and sits on the College of Business Executive Advisory Council. Gonzalez earned his bachelor’s degree in finance, a master’s degree, and a doctorate in business administration from the University of South Florida.

Both appointments require confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Board of Cosmetology Reappointment

Governor DeSantis reappointed Marisol Marin to the Florida Board of Cosmetology.

Marin, a Miami resident, currently serves as the Administrator of Project Management for the Greater Miami Expressway Agency. She previously held the role of Contracts Compliance Manager for the School Board of Miami-Dade County and was an active member of the National Contract Management Association.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Barry University. Marin’s reappointment will also require Florida Senate confirmation.
