Grassy Key Man Arrested For Gun Possession, Domestic Incident: Monroe County Sheriff

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 56-year-old man from Grassy Key, Florida, with a prior felony record, was arrested on Sunday for illegally possessing firearms following a domestic dispute.

James Barney Kast faces charges of criminal mischief and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near Mile Marker 58, where Kast was accused of damaging a woman’s vehicle during an argument.

A search of Kast’s residence uncovered a .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun, both of which he is prohibited from owning due to his felony convictions.

Kast has a criminal history that includes prior convictions for assault, burglary, grand theft, and robbery in Chatham and Polk counties. He was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
