TAMPA, Fla. – Traffic is flowing once again through downtown Tampa following a Saturday morning slowdown for northbound commuters.
The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that all lanes of I-275 near the 46 Milepost are now open to the public after a roadway depression triggered an immediate emergency response earlier today.
ORIGINAL REPORT: Motorists traveling through the heart of Tampa are facing significant delays this Saturday morning after a section of the pavement began to sink on Interstate 275.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) confirmed at 11:15 a.m. that troopers are currently on-site monitoring a “depression in the roadway” located along the northbound lanes near the 46 Milepost, situated just north of the I-4 interchange.
The structural issue has forced officials to shutter multiple lanes of traffic to ensure public safety. Maintenance crews have been dispatched to the scene to inspect the depth of the damage and begin emergency repairs on the highway surface.
While the exact cause of the depression has not yet been determined, the immediate impact on the weekend commute is substantial.

“Motorists should expect delays,” the Florida Highway Patrol stated in an official advisory, urging drivers to seek alternative routes or allow for extra travel time while the northbound bottleneck persists.
Traffic is currently backed up toward the downtown interchange as engineers work to determine if the road is stable enough for full reopening. There is currently no estimated time for when the lanes will be cleared for normal traffic flow.
