MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that local operations remain entirely unchanged following unverified news reports of potential Cuban military action against the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
According to local authorities, Sheriff Rick Ramsay has not received any communication from federal or state agencies regarding claims that Cuba targeted the American base using drones.
The sheriff’s office stated it cannot confirm the reports, has no way to substantiate where the rumors started, and has issued no new directives to its patrol or detention deputies.

“I am monitoring the situation, but I have not been contacted by any government agency and I don’t believe there is any reason to be concerned,” Ramsay said.
The agency emphasized that regular daily operations throughout the Florida Keys will continue as usual. Ramsay noted that he expects to be briefed by federal partners if a legitimate threat develops.
“I am confident I will be notified if anything does change and I will alert the public,” Ramsay said.
