Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms warns that punishing a group for the actions of one individual sets a dangerous precedent for all gun owners.
In a rebuke of the Justice Department, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) condemned reports that senior DOJ officials are weighing proposals to restrict the Second Amendment rights of transgender individuals.
The potential policy, reportedly a response to a recent shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, has been labeled by the CCRKBA as a “reprehensible” and alarming overreach.

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the CCRKBA, argues that penalizing an entire demographic for the actions of a single individual is fundamentally unjust and sets a dangerous precedent. He draws a parallel to the broader gun control debate, where law-abiding citizens are often subject to restrictions because of crimes committed by others.
“We shouldn’t even consider such an extreme response to a heinous act committed by one disturbed individual, much less implement it,” Gottlieb stated. He emphasized that the Minneapolis killer is no longer a threat and that targeting a minority group as a “scapegoat” is merely a “publicity stunt.”
Gottlieb also noted the irony of some liberal media outlets suddenly supporting gun rights in this specific instance.

He suggested that this controversy might provide a learning opportunity, showing that constitutional rights, once eroded for one group, could be vulnerable for others. The CCRKBA chairman underscored that enumerated rights cannot be “stripped away” and that such a policy could lead to a slippery slope where rights become a “distant memory.”
The organization, which boasts over 650,000 members, remains dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through lobbying and grassroots activism.
