SARASOTA, Fla. – A Tuesday afternoon shopping trip turned into a chaotic scene at a local home improvement store when a domestic dispute escalated into a shooting.

On February 3, 2026, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office swarmed the Lowe’s on Central Sarasota Parkway following reports that a man had been shot in the leg. The emergency call, placed by the victim himself, triggered a heavy law enforcement response that included K-9 units, tactical teams, and aviation support.

The victim was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries, while deputies locked down the area.

According to investigators, the shooter had already fled the scene by the time patrol cars arrived. However, the suspect didn’t get far. Using a combination of ground units and air support, deputies managed to track down and detain the individual a short distance from the store.

The Sheriff’s Office later identified the suspect as 25-year-old Kaleb Michael Caire.

Detectives clarified that the two men knew each other. The incident is being handled as a domestic-related crime rather than a random attack on the public.

Caire now faces a list of charges, including aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm on public property, and tampering with evidence.

The investigation is still active as authorities work to piece together exactly what led to the gunfire in the parking lot of such a busy retail hub.
