ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A tense situation involving an apparent abduction at gunpoint triggered a major police response and shut down a busy interstate artery this afternoon before ending peacefully.

According to police, the incident began around 12:20 p.m. when witnesses reported seeing three men holding a victim at gunpoint near the 1300 block of 4th Avenue North. Investigators say two of the suspects forced the man into an apartment at 1315 4th Ave N, barricading themselves inside, while a third suspect remained outside to act as a lookout.

The developing standoff forced law enforcement to close all eastbound lanes of I-375 heading into the city, snarling traffic while officers worked to secure the scene.

Negotiators were eventually able to facilitate a safe resolution. Authorities confirmed that the first suspect and the victim exited the apartment initially. The second suspect inside the residence surrendered to police at 2:06 p.m., bringing the barricade situation to a close.

Despite the presence of firearms and the forced entry, officials confirmed that no one was injured during the ordeal.

Three suspects are currently in custody. Police have stated that their identities and specific charges will be released once the booking process is complete. The investigation remains active.
