Gunshots Ring Out In East Tampa: Man Dead After Afternoon Shooting

TAMPA, Fla. – A neighborhood on East Powhatan Avenue became a crime scene Wednesday afternoon following a fatal shooting that left one man dead. Tampa Police were called to the 3700 block just before 3:00 pm after neighbors reported hearing several rounds of gunfire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult Black male inside a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police at the scene began emergency life-saving measures until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and took over medical care.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Right now, the area is cordoned off as detectives sift through the residence for evidence and talk to potential witnesses. Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what sparked the violence and who else might have been involved in the incident.

The department hasn’t released the victim’s name yet, and no arrests have been announced. Because the investigation is in its earliest stages, police are asking the public for help. Anyone who saw anything unusual or has video footage from the area is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813.231.6130. When calling, please reference report number 26-223114.

Officials say they will provide more updates as soon as more information becomes available.
