Gus Bilirakis Makes It Official: A Run For Re-Election In 2026

Representative Gus Bilirakis officially kicked off the 2026 election cycle today, announcing his intention to keep his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The veteran congressman, who represents Florida’s 12th District, confirmed his bid for re-election by pointing to a track record of legislative activity and a focus on economic relief for his constituents.

During his announcement, Bilirakis highlighted several policy pillars he hopes to carry into another term. He specifically noted his work on affordability, citing support for tax-related initiatives such as the “no tax on tips and overtime” proposal and the introduction of a new tax deduction specifically for seniors.

According to the Congressman, these measures are essential to easing the financial strain currently felt by workers and small businesses across the state.

“I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished for Florida families this term, and I look forward to building on that success, which is why I’m running for re-election in 2026,” Bilirakis said.

While the 2026 midterms are still on the horizon, Bilirakis is positioning himself as a results-oriented leader, leaning on his reputation as a high-volume legislator.

He noted that his primary goals remain centered on reducing federal regulations and lowering the cost of living. Beyond general economic policy, his campaign platform continues to emphasize dedicated support for veterans and seniors, two of the most significant demographics within his Gulf Coast district.

“As Florida’s Most Effective Legislator, I remain committed to results-driven leadership and strong constituent service as we work to lower costs, reduce burdensome taxes and regulations, and secure a brighter, stronger future for seniors, Veterans and families throughout Florida’s 12th Congressional district and beyond,” Bilirakis added.

The 12th District, which covers Citrus and Hernando counties along with part of Pasco, has long been a stronghold for Bilirakis. With this announcement, he becomes one of the first major Florida incumbents to formally commit to the 2026 race, setting the stage for what he describes as a push for “expanded opportunity” in the Sunshine State.
