POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 26-year-old Haines City man died, and a 28-year-old Kissimmee woman was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on Cypress Parkway, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 6:07 a.m. on August 9, responding to reports of a crash located approximately 1.2 miles west of San Clemente Avenue.
Preliminary findings by the PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit indicate that a 2012 Toyota 4Runner was traveling westbound on Cypress Parkway when it crossed the center line for unknown reasons. The SUV collided directly with an oncoming 2025 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound.
Upon arrival, first responders found the driver of the Elantra, the 26-year-old Haines City man, deceased inside his vehicle. The driver of the 4Runner, the 28-year-old woman from Kissimmee, sustained non-life-threatening facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities shut down Cypress Parkway for roughly two and a half hours while emergency personnel worked and investigators examined the roadway.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing, and any potential criminal or civil charges will be determined after the final findings are complete.
