THE BREAKDOWN: A 44-year-old Key Largo man was taken into custody Thursday morning after allegedly waving a hammer in public, resisting arrest, and threatening to crack open the heads of responding sheriff’s deputies.
A 44-year-old Key Largo man faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening law enforcement officers with a hammer on Thursday morning. Emilio Jose Molina was arrested on June 18, 2026, and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and threatening to harm law enforcement officers. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Marina Avenue in Key Largo at approximately 7:30 a.m. A witness reported seeing a man, later identified as Molina, stumbling down the street, waving a hammer, and pointing his middle finger at people passing by.
When deputies arrived, they noted that Molina had trouble standing. According to responding officers, Molina refused ‘lawful commands’ to stop reaching into his pockets and refused to provide his name.
Deputies reported that Molina repeatedly swore at them, used racial slurs, and refused to put his hands behind his back. During the interaction, he also told deputies he would “break their heads open.”
Following the encounter, Molina was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier for medical clearance. He was subsequently transported to jail.
