TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Police responded to the report of “shots heard” in the 1400 block W. Waters Ave. One business was struck by at least one bullet.
Officers working the investigation followed leads suggesting the subject entered 8408 N. Orleans Ave. At approximately 7:00 PM, officers attempted to make contact with the subject, later identified as 71-year-old Terry Butts.
Butts raised a gun at officers, who immediately took cover. Negotiations began with Butts and lasted for almost 90 minutes before he exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. No officers were injured.
Butts was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
Additional charges may come at the conclusion of this active and ongoing investigation. It has not yet been determined why Butts fired shots at the business.
Police say that no one was injured.
