Hard Hats For Byron: Florida’s Largest Construction Group Backs Donalds For Governor

The Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida (ABC) officially threw its weight behind Byron Donalds’ gubernatorial bid this week, marking a significant nod from the state’s dominant commercial construction trade group.

Representing thousands of contractors and suppliers across the Sunshine State, the association pointed to Donalds’ track record on regulatory reform and his specific plans for workforce development as the primary drivers for the endorsement.

ABC leaders stressed that the next governor needs a firm grasp on the logistical and economic hurdles facing builders today.

“Byron Donalds understands what it takes to keep Florida building towards the future,” said Richard Backa, Chairman of the Board for ABC. “From reducing unnecessary regulations to investing in workforce development, Byron has laid out a clear vision that supports contractors, strengthens our economy, and creates opportunities for skilled workers across the state.”

For Donalds, the endorsement serves as a cornerstone for his economic platform, which leans heavily on streamlining the path for new infrastructure and housing projects. “I’m honored to have the support of Associated Builders and Contractors,” Donalds stated following the announcement. “As our state continues to grow, we must have a plan in place to support that growth. As Governor, I’ll fight to cut burdensome regulations, expand workforce training, and ensure our construction industry has the tools it needs to keep building Florida’s future.”

He added that his focus remains on job creation and maintaining Florida’s position as a national leader in economic opportunity.

This latest backing adds to a substantial momentum shift for the Donalds campaign. The ABC joins a diverse coalition of supporters that includes Donald Trump, Elon Musk, a majority of Florida’s sheriffs, and 17 members of the state’s Congressional delegation. Donalds also currently holds the support of 75% of the Republican caucus in the Florida House.

The timing of the endorsement aligns with a period of financial strength for the campaign.

Donalds recently reported a record-breaking $22 million fundraising haul for the first quarter, a figure that coincides with internal polling showing him maintaining a lead in potential matchups against both Republican and Democratic challengers in the race to succeed the current administration.
