CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A two-vehicle crash on US-41 claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred at approximately 2:13 p.m. just south of Andrew Street.

State troopers reported that a 28-year-old Brooksville man was driving a Ford E350 van northbound on US-41 when he lost control of the vehicle. The van veered onto the east shoulder of the roadway. Investigators say the driver then overcorrected, causing the van to swerve across the center line and into the southbound lane.

The van struck a southbound Toyota RAV4, driven by the Crystal River woman, in a nearly head-on collision.

Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the van was also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Two other passengers in the van, both adult men from Inverness, were not injured in the wreck.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the names of those involved as the investigation continues.
