“The View” co-hosts have made numerous claims throughout the year that were either immediately or later proven to be falsehoods.
The co-hosts insisted that President Joe Biden was mentally suitable to remain in the 2024 race and made several false accusations about President-elect Donald Trump and his allies, along with other claims that have proven to be completely off base.
1. “The View” co-host Joy Behar says J.D. Vance supports women staying in violent marriages
Behar alleged in July that the now-vice president-elect J.D. Vance supports women remaining in violent marriages after he argued in 2022 that the sexual revolution made it easier for couples who are “unhappy” or in violent marriages to “shift spouses,” ultimately leading to higher divorce rates. The vice presidential candidate repeatedly disputed these claims and said the political left “completely twisted [his] words.”
“The other thing that really ticked me off is he said that people in unhappy or even violent marriages should stay married. Now I work a lot for the retreat, which is an organization that protects women from abusive husbands. They go to this place in their pajamas, they run with their children in their pajamas. And so to stay in a marriage like that not only puts the woman at risk, but the children at risk. So he’s worried about the children. So he says ‘to shift spouses like that,’ he claimed people who shift spouses like that change their underwear, inflicting long-term damage among the kids,” Behar said.
“He is completely distorted in his views, and so is Trump. So the two of them have that in common,” Behar continued.
Vance, who himself is a victim of domestic violence, said the accusations that he supports these sorts of domestic arrangements are “shameful.”
2. Whoopi Goldberg claims Biden could throw every Republican in jail because of SCOTUS immunity ruling
“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg claimed during a Feb. 29 segment that President Joe Biden would have the right to throw every Republican in jail if the Supreme Court ruled in favor of granting U.S. presidents immunity from prosecution.

“Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says yes, he has all those rights,” Goldberg stated. “He is immune from everything. You know what Joe Biden could do since he is presently president? He could … throw every Republican in jail. I mean, he could. What this means is he could do anything. He could dismiss everybody’s debt. You know, there’s a whole bunch of great stuff that could happen. But let’s really look at what this means.”
The Supreme Court later ruled in July that a president has immunity from official acts taken while they are in office. Trump, who faced four criminal indictments at the time, continued to face charges as special counsel Jack Smith argued that he acted outside of his official duties on January 6, 2021.
Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump, ruled against dismissing the case and the president-elect’s conviction after he won the presidency in November 2024. George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley noted that the judge’s move proved that the Supreme Court did not grant the president to be completely immune from any consequences for any potential crime committed.

3. Sunny Hostin says there will be no other candidate besides Joe Biden
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin said there will be no other candidate besides Biden months before the president dropped out of the race over concerns about his mental acuity.
Hostin, along with Goldberg, told the public that Americans need to accept that the then 81-year-old president was going to be the Democratic nominee and potentially serve another four years.
“There isn’t going to be another candidate. The candidate is Joe Biden,” Hostin said during a Feb. 6 segment.
“Yeah, so suck it up,” Goldberg added.
“[Biden] has run this country well; he has so much to run on; he’s got a better economy, inflation is down, job growth. More job growth than any other president in the past decade,” Hostin continued. “Infrastructure bill, so he has a platform to run on. The Republicans have zero to run on, and the best candidate that the Republicans could come up with is Donald Trump!”
Following Biden’s disastrous debate performance in June, nearly 40 Democrats called on the president to drop out of the 2024 race over concerns about his ability to serve another term or win reelection. The president announced his exit from the race in a July 21 statement and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, ensuring she would be the Democratic nominee.
4. Sunny Hostin claims Kamala Harris is a “moderate”
Hostin argued on July 26 that Harris is a “moderate” Democrat despite her viewpoints and past policy proposals suggesting otherwise.
“Republicans are trying to frame her as this deep leftist,” Hostin said. “She’s a former prosecutor. She’s not only a former prosecutor, she was the AG of the largest Department of Justice in the country other than the real Department of Justice. Prosecutors are not really leftists, they put people in jail for a living, okay? They’re pretty moderate. I know the vice president personally—she is not—she’s moderate.”
Harris was voted second only to independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders as the most liberal senator in the 116th Congress by the nonpartisan organization GovTrack, which tracks lawmakers’ voting records. While in the Senate, Harris co-signed a “Medicare for All” bill sponsored by Sanders, which aimed to abolish private health insurance and create a single-payer system where the federal government is the sole provider for health insurance coverage.

The vice president further co-sponsored the Green New Deal, which Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced in the House, while supporting the elimination of the Senate filibuster in order to pass the legislation in 2019. The then-Democratic senator also supported a ban on fracking, which she later walked back.
Harris backed slavery reparations for black Americans during her 2020 presidential candidacy and supported a bail fund to release those participating in the Black Lives Matter riots in the summer of 2020.
6. Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro say Trump intends to target Hunter Biden, other political opponents
Goldberg and co-host Ana Navarro asserted that Trump intends to target his political opponents, including the president’s son, Hunter Biden. The co-hosts made these claims in an attempt to justify Biden’s decision to pardon his son before he left office, despite telling the American public for months that he had no intention of granting a pardon to Hunter.
“So I think, for many, many reasons, this is very different than any other situation that we have ever dealt with because when we’re talking about who gets a pardon and who doesn’t get a pardon, this man, I think, Biden had no intention of pardoning Hunter. And I think the more stuff that went down, I think he said ‘well why am I busting my behind to stay straight and do this when no one else is doing it?’” Goldberg said.

“I think what happened in the meantime that we have to be cognizant of is that Donald Trump campaigned on retribution, vindictiveness and vengeance,” Navarro added. “He has appointed people to law enforcement positions who have said ‘we are here for retribution and vindictiveness.’ So Joe Biden could not leave his son, Hunter, his only son, at the mercy of these people who are saying they’re going to take retribution.”
Trump told NBC News’ Kristen Welker that he will not personally target his political opponents or direct Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, his nominees to be attorney general and FBI director, to launch investigations into Special Counsel Jack Smith, Biden or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
7. Whoopi suggests J.D. Vance, Elon Musk want to kill Trump. She then had to walk it back
Goldberg, without evidence, pondered whether Vance and Musk were plotting to kill Trump by reaching their legs out and purposely making the president-elect trip down the stairs. The co-host had to walk the claim back in the following segment to clarify that she does not wish for the president-elect to get hurt.
Before the election, Goldberg has made several claims about Trump without evidence to support it. She claimed in January that Trump wants to “round up” journalists and gay people to make them mysteriously “disappear,” and further stated in October that the president-elect wants to break up racial marriages, deport the non-white spouse and place their white partner with someone else.
After Trump won the election, Goldberg said Americans should not panic about the president-elect before he is even in office.
