Hernando County Fire Captain Killed Monday In Single-Vehicle Crash

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL. – Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services is saddened to report that Captain Mark Dempsey, 44, was killed in an early morning motor vehicle crash on Monday. 

Captain Dempsey was involved in a single-vehicle accident while driving home.

Captain Mark Dempsey entered the Department in 2001 and was promoted to Captain in 2017. 

Captain Dempsey was currently serving at Fire Station #7, rode up as an Acting Battalion Chief, and was the Coordinator for the Hazardous Materials Team.

“Mark leaves behind his loving wife and two sons.  Please keep his wife and children, as well the rest of his family, friends, and members of the fire service, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said HCFES said in a statement.

Funeral service information will be released as soon as arrangements are finalized.
