BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A Hernando County man who fled during his trial for child sex offenses was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in state prison and designated as a Sexual Offender. Christian Fischer, 43, was /convicted in absentia/ in February after failing to appear for the second day of his trial.

Hernando County Judge Daniel B. Merritt delivered the sentence Friday, sending Fischer to the Florida Department of Corrections for his convictions of Traveling to Meet a Minor and Soliciting a Child for Unlawful Sexual Conduct.

Convict On the Run

Fischer was out on bond when his trial began earlier this year but became a fugitive after skipping the proceedings. A Failure to Appear warrant with nationwide extradition was issued.

His evasion ended in July when the United States Marshals Service located photographs of him in New Orleans, Louisiana. Investigators tracked down Fischer’s hiding spot, leading to his eventual arrest on the outstanding warrant.

Sting Operation Led to Charges

The charges against Fischer stem from a January 20, 2022, incident. According to court records, a citizen who had created a fake social media profile of a minor to identify predators was contacted by Fischer.

Fischer messaged the profile, believing he was communicating with a 13-year-old boy. During the exchange, Fischer acknowledged the child’s age, asked if they had been sexually active, and continued to send increasingly explicit messages.

The exchange culminated in Fischer planning to meet the minor at a local store. When Fischer arrived, the citizen confronted him about his intentions for sexual gratification and then called law enforcement. The interaction was recorded and turned over to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

Fischer fled before deputies arrived, but not before discarding a bag into a trash bin. Deputies recovered the bag, which contained lubricant, a box of chocolates, chocolate syrup, and gummy rings. Officials later located Fischer, who was in possession of another bag containing a hairbrush, condoms, and an enema.

During his interview, Fischer admitted to knowing the person he was messaging was 13, confessed to sending the sexually charged messages, and acknowledged his intent to use the items he possessed on the child.

Fischer was initially arrested for Traveling to Meet a Minor, Use of a Computer to Seduce, Solicit, or Lure a Child, Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device, and Possession of Marijuana.
