HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Hernando County inmate has died following an apparent suicide attempt at the county detention center.
According to deputies, on October 30th, Cory Joseph Tine, 47, was found unresponsive in the shower area of the detention center. Fellow inmates alerted detention deputies, who, along with medical staff, immediately began life-saving measures. Tine was transported to Tampa General Hospital in Brooksville, where he was placed on life support.

Despite these efforts, Tine was pronounced deceased on the morning of November 1st. His family has given consent for organ donation.
An investigation into the incident revealed that Tine was alone in the shower area at the time of the apparent suicide attempt.
He had been housed in the general population since October 14th and, according to officials, had not expressed any indication of suicidal thoughts to inmates, family, or legal counsel.
The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
