HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Hernando County jury found 62-year-old Robert Daniel David Myers guilty of multiple sexual offenses involving a child in the courtroom of Circuit Judge Daniel B. Merritt.
Myers was convicted of two counts of sexual battery upon a child under 12 years of age, two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child, and two counts of sexual battery on a child by a person in familial or custodial authority.
The convictions follow a January 2024 arrest by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies initially discovered the allegations while investigating an unrelated crime, during which they obtained a letter outlining the sexual abuse of a minor. Investigators used the details in the letter to locate and identify the victim.
Upon contact by law enforcement, the victim initially expressed reluctance before detailing a pattern of ongoing abuse by Myers. According to detectives, the abuse began when the victim was 6 years old, with the specific crimes prosecuted in Hernando County taking place when the victim was 11.
Prior to relocating to Florida, Myers had been convicted of four counts of child molestation in another state.
“Any lead, any information, is always just one more step closer to justice,” Chief Walter Forgie said. “That’s exactly what happened in this case. After obtaining information that this abuse occurred, detectives worked swiftly to investigate and verify the accounts given. With that, we were able to build a solid case that unarguably proved the defendant committed these awful acts.”
Assistant State Attorney Angelina Rodeo prosecuted the case, securing guilty verdicts without physical evidence due to the time elapsed since the offenses occurred and the delay in initial reporting.
