HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Commuters traveling through northwestern Hernando County should prepare for significant travel shifts starting Monday morning. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has issued a formal traffic alert for a stretch of US 98 extending from north of CR 491 (Citrus Way) to just north of Landfill Road.
According to the FDOT summary, the project will necessitate active lane closures and flagging operations beginning Monday, March 16, and continuing through Friday, March 20. Drivers can expect these disruptions to occur daily between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Because the work relies on flagging to funnel traffic through the work zone, motorists are encouraged to add extra time to their morning and evening commutes or seek alternative routes such as Suncoast Parkway or US 41 to avoid the congestion.
FDOT officials remind those traveling through the area to remain alert for workers and to follow all temporary traffic signals.
