Hernando County Traffic Alert: Holiday Week Roadwork Set To Slow Drivers On US 301, SR 50

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers moving through Hernando County during the holiday rush should prepare for delays on two key routes. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has scheduled roadwork that will impact traffic flow just days before Christmas.

Crews will be active on US 301 just south of Major Dade Drive. Motorists can expect lane closures and flagging operations overnight on Sunday, December 21, and Monday, December 22. Work is scheduled to run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.

Significant activity is also planned for State Road 50 (Cortez Blvd), stretching from Ridge Manor Boulevard to Riverland Clay Sink Road. This zone will see both day and night operations involving periodic flagging and brief traffic stops:

  • Night Work: Sunday, Dec. 21, and Monday, Dec. 22, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Day Work: Monday, Dec. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Drivers are urged to use caution in these work zones and factor in extra travel time.
