HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers in Hernando County should prepare for minor delays as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) kicks off maintenance projects starting Sunday, March 8. According to the District 7 lane closure summary, work will focus on specific stretches of US 98 and US 301, impacting both daytime commuters and overnight travelers.

The most consistent impact will occur on US 98, stretching from north of CR 491 (Citrus Way) to north of Landfill Road. Starting Monday, March 9, and running through Friday, March 13, crews will be on-site from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.

During these twelve-hour shifts, motorists should expect lane closures and flagging operations, which may lead to intermittent stops and slower traffic flow during peak daylight hours.

For those traveling after dark, US 301 will also see activity just south of Major Dade Road. This project is scheduled for a shorter window, occurring only on the nights of Sunday, March 8, and Monday, March 9.

Workers will be active from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following mornings. Similar to the US 98 project, this site will utilize flagging operations and lane closures to manage traffic while work is performed.

FDOT recommends that drivers remain alert and watch for workers in these construction zones. These closures are part of the broader District 7 maintenance schedule for the week of March 8–14.
